25,000 people visit Hutt City's Libraries every week.
Over 57,000 Hutt City residents are members of the library. Last year we issued over 1.7 million items and had 1.8 million visitors.
Petone Library is open all weekend
Make a day of it in Petone on the weekend. Catch a bite at a local Café, hangout on the foreshore and come into the Library between 10.00am – 5.00pm both days. Wainuiomata and War Memorial Libraries are also open Saturday 10.00am – 5.00pm and Sundays 1.00pm – 5.00pm. War Memorial Library is open until 8.30pm every weeknight.

Come and read the actual papers from last century in our local history collection. We also feature other regional papers including the Evening Post (before the current Dominion Post) back to 1865 on microfiche. For more information contact us.
There's a real variety of staff
Teachers, sports people, a nurse, musicians, artists, a designer, geographers, an accountant, a former NZ tug of war champion and much more are employed by Hutt City Libraries. We’re passionate about what we read and do and can add real depth to anyone wanting info on any topic with both our own interests and library resources.

Explore the new kids catalogue from home and discover searching made easier through pictures and subjects. And if it’s out you can reserve it. You can also manage your account and loans online.

DVDs, CDs, audio books, magazines
Hutt City Libraries holds over 300 popular magazine titles. DVDs range from new release movies to documentaries and everything in between. We have hundreds of books on CD aswell - great for the car trip.

Storytime
Bring your young ones along to the library for stories, songs and activities. These free sessions are held at every library throughout the week. More details on all our other storytimes.
It’s free to join
All Hutt City residents and ratepayers can join for free. All you need is some ID and proof of your address and in 3 minutes you’re a member. You can use your card at all eight Libraries in the city, Stokes Valley, Taita, Naenae, War Memorial, Moera, Petone, Wainuiomata and Eastbourne.
