Research Centre
The Centre on the top floor of the Central Library, holds rich collections of material relating to the history of the Hutt Valley, including:
- Hutt Vertical File - clippings, Council reports and pamphlets
- Hutt Photos - past & present images of life in the city including portraits and aerial views
- Hutt Maps - historic maps, charts & early sketch plans of the Valley
All these resources can be searched on a database accessible from any of our Community Libraries.
- Hutt Newspapers - we hold the Evening Post/Dominion Post on microfilm from 1865, the Hutt News from 1927 and a range of other community newspapers such as the early Hutt & Petone Chronicle. We maintain an online index of newspaper articles of local interest from 2000 on.
Some of the Community Libraries (such as Eastbourne, Petone, Wainuiomata) hold unique collections of historical material relating to their local area.
