Particulates and polluters - Air quality issues in the Hutt Valley
Dr Perry Davy, Air Quality Scientist at GNS Science

Harmful air particulates are a leading cause of respiratory disease, and in the Hutt Valley, incidences of poor air quality are evident in some suburbs like Wainuiomata due to high woodburner use in winter. Improved council initiatives are decreasing the incidence of particulate exceedances. But what about people who persist in burning treated timber causing harmful toxins in the air? What about other worrying sources of air particulates around the Hutt Valley?
