British Newspaper Archive

Search over 700 British and Irish newspaper titles from 1710 to 2000, digitised online. Daily, weekly and illustrated newspapers are included, plus specialist journals and magazines published in the UK and Ireland. Research local or family history from counties, cities, villages and London boroughs. You can also find news articles, photos and family notices about New Zealand, accounts of visits to the UK by prominent Maori, and letters home from NZ settlers to help your whakapapa research.

This database is only accessible on computers within the library and you will need to create a free account the first time you access it.

Search Census and electoral rolls, migration, probate, land, parish records. Special collections include the 1939 Register of England and Wales; Irish Catholic parish, workhouse and prison records; and Royal Archives. Findmypast has useful webinars on YouTube and an interesting blog.
